The 360° rotating hard rock blast hole down-the-hole (DTH) drill rig is a highly efficient and versatile machine engineered for precision drilling in demanding mining and quarrying operations. Its core function is to create deep, vertical, or inclined blast holes in exceptionally hard rock formations.
The defining feature of this rig is its fully rotational carousel or drill platform, which allows for a complete 360° positioning of the drill string. This capability enables the operator to drill multiple holes in a precise pre-planned pattern from a single setup position, significantly enhancing operational efficiency by minimizing the need for frequent and time-consuming repositioning of the entire machine.
The drilling process utilizes the Down-the-Hole hammer method, where a high-impact pneumatic hammer is located directly behind the drill bit at the bottom of the hole. As the drill pipe rotates slowly, the DTH hammer delivers powerful, repetitive blows to crush the rock, while compressed air simultaneously powers the hammer and flushes the rock cuttings to the surface. This combination of rotation, percussion, and efficient debris removal makes it exceptionally effective for penetrating granite, basalt, and other abrasive formations.
