Tunnel jumbo drilling involves the use of a specialized drill rig, to bore blast holes or support anchor holes in underground tunneling projects. The jumbo, equipped with multiple hydraulic booms and high-precision drilling mechanisms, advances along the tunnel face, positioning drill bits to create a pre-designed pattern of holes. During operation, operators coordinate the rig’s movement, aligning drills with laser guidance systems or digital blueprints to ensure accuracy in hole depth, angle, and spacing. The process maximizes efficiency while adhering to safety protocols, with dust suppression systems mitigating airborne particulates. Once drilling is complete, explosives or rock bolts are inserted into the holes to facilitate controlled rock fragmentation or stabilize the tunnel structure.
